Tamale, Ghana – The 2016 Nandom constituency parliamentary candidate of the Progressive People’s Party, Peter Claver Kabriku, has endorsed the candidature of the 2020 parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Dr Richard Kuuire.
According to Mr. Kabriku, his decision to support Dr. Kuuire in the upcoming elections was based on the fact that the NDC as a party was open to everyone irrespective of the person’s social standing.
“Look at John Mahama…look at his background, he didn’t have anything. He was just a parliamentary candidate and yet he was chosen as vice presidential candidate. He became presidential candidate, won elections and ruled Ghana fairly. In other political parties you must have a lot of money in order to be considered for a position.
The second reason why I am supporting Dr. Kuuire is because a lot of people including my party’s 2016 presidential candidate haven’t been treated well. His business was collapsed by this current government and as a result he became financially weak. This has also affected many of us PPP members and because of that we can’t contest. So myself I can’t contest due to lack of resources and if I have decided not to contest again in Nandom I think it’s only wise that I support a party that supports everyone whenever it is in power”, Mr Kabriku told Savannah News in an exclusive interview on Sunday during a meeting of natives of Nandom and the NDC’s Dr Kuuire in Tamale.
The purpose of the meeting was to sell the NDC’s campaign message to natives of Nandom who live and work in Tamale and many of its adjoining communities. It was also intended to encourage those who had registered to vote back home to endeavor to go back to Nandom when the time is due.
Speaker after speaker told the gathering of about 100 people who had defied a downpour to attend the meeting, to vote against the New Patriotic Party come December 7th. According to them, the only time the North gets development is whenever the NDC is in power, warning that they would get their worst disappointment if they retain President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP government.
Dr. Richard Kuuire commended Mr. Peter Claver Kabriku for throwing his support behind him, stressing that “there was the need for unity among the people of Nandom in order to unseat Lawyer Ambrose rose Dery and the NPP government”.
