RudCom and its subsidiary SavannahNewsOnline.Com (Savannah News) believe young people can be inspired when they read the biographies of successful and accomplished people especially those who grew up in similar circumstances they are in today. Thus, the two establishments have since 2019 been jointly implementing the 100 MIPs project. The annual project is expected to benefit schoolchildren and other young people in the Upper West, Upper East, North East, Northern and the Savannah Regions of Ghana.
The project nominates 200 personalities each year. Nominees are placed in 10 different categories: Education, Sports, STEM, Agribusiness, Politics & Governance, Health & Wellness, Finance & Entrepreneurship, Media & Law, Arts & Lifestyle as well as Humanitarianism & Diplomacy.
The public is asked to vote for their preferred 100 MIPs out of the 200 nominees. At the end of the public voting which could last between 30 and 45 days, the names of nominees who get the highest number of votes are published.
To be considered for nomination, a person must meet either one or all of the following three set of criteria: Must have excelled or is successful in their chosen career or profession; Must have made significant progress to the top of their career when compared to their peers; or Must have made significant impact in the lives of other people or the community they hail from.
“The 100 MIPs project and for that matter the MIPs magazine seeks to use the stories of successful and or accomplished natives of Northern Ghana to inspire schoolchildren and other young people to dream big.
It seeks to whip up interest in reading amongst children at the basic and senior high school levels so as to enhance their level of literacy. It also seeks to ignite the interest of young people in entrepreneurship through the inspiring success stories of some of the personalities”, Joseph Ziem, Executive Director of RudCom stated.
The MIPs whose biographies have been published in this edition of the magazine are those who agreed to be interviewed by biographers when they were contacted. However, some 10 MIPs could not be reached at all as at the time of producing the magazine. Provision has been made for them in future. The remaining 58 MIPs unfortunately declined to take part in the project.
“On be behalf of the team at RudCom and Savannah News, I would like to express our profound gratitude to all the MIPs who agreed to work with us to produce this magazine which contains their life stories and many important lessons young people can learn from. It is my estimation that, a decade or two from now, your stories would have made a lot of positive impact on the lives of thousands of young people. You will never be forgotten in history as long as this collection of biographies continues to exist many years to come. Thank you for contributing to the development of young people through your own life stories”, Joseph Ziem who is also publisher and chief editor of The MIPs Magazine said.
