Tamale, Ghana – MTN Ghana Foundation has presented personal protective equipment worth thousands of Ghana cedis to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) in Tamale to enable the only referral medical facility in Northern Ghana continue with its fight against the corona virus pandemic.
“During this pandemic, we have acknowledged that protecting health workers is paramount, yet there is lack of PPE in some of our hospitals and health facilities. Today, I am very pleased to be here on behalf of the MTN Ghana Foundation to make an intervention that is needed to protect health workers during this period”, Obed Adu-Amankwaah, Northern Sector Area Sales Manager said during a brief ceremony to present the items to management of TTH.
The items were 2,000 pieces of Face masks, 500 pieces of coveralls, 1,500 pieces of gloves, 40 gallons of mentholated spirit, and 30 contactless thermometers.
According to Mr. Adu-Amankwaah, the donation made today was not an isolated one, because the Foundation was making similar donations to 29 hospitals across the country.
“At MTN, we believe that we have a major role to play in this fight against COVID-19 right from the onset, and this continues to be paramount to us”, he emphasized.
Medical Director of TTH, Dr Abass Adam who received the items acknowledged the numerous support the hospital had received from MTN Ghana Foundation in recent times.
He commended the MTN Ghana Foundation for being a reliable partner in the provision of quality healthcare to the people of Northern Ghana as the only referral facility.
Recent Donations by The Foundation
MTN Group recently made a major move in the fight against COVID-19 by donating US$25million to the African Union to procure COVID-19 vaccines. This partnership will provide 7 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for health workers across the continent, which will contribute to the vaccination initiative of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). 165,000 AstraZeneca vaccines have been received in Ghana and handed over to the Ministry of health.
MTN Ghana Foundation also donated PPEs worth GHc5 million to the National COVID Trust Fund and another donation of essential equipment to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research to enable rapid testing and data processing.
Furthermore, MTN launched the “Wear it for Me” campaign to raise awareness about the importance of wearing face masks and also donated over 85,000 KN95 face masks to over 30 hospitals in all 16 regions of Ghana.
Mr Obed Adu-Amankwaa encouraged all Ghanaians to continue to adhere strictly to all the safety protocols issued by local and global authorities in fighting the pandemic.
