Ejura tension: Organised Scheme Against MCE

Following the death of Kaaka, there have been several attempts to link the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Mohammed Salisu Bamba to his murder.

As part of the fake news agenda, headlines such as “Ejura MCE flees with his family”, “Ejura MCE Sacked” and “Ejura MCE Arrested”  have so far inundated social media sites.

In reaction, a teacher at the Ejura Municipality in the Ashanti Region, Ibrahim Paapa Antaru has accused the Member of Parliament of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of churning out fake news to denigrate the MCE, honourable Salisu Bamba.

In an interview on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana, he claimed that the NDC Member of Parliament for the Ejura constituency, Alhaji Muhammad Bawah Braimah is the brain behind the fake news agenda.

According to him, the late Kaaka whose murder created uproar in the area was a known member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said the unfortunate incidents could have been avoided if NDC did not take advantage of the situation to organise its people to demonstrate and if the police had acted rapidly on the report made to it.

He asserted that 80 percent of the agitators are known NDC supporters who are uncomfortable with the MCE’s stellar performance.

He adviced the NDC to depoliticize the unfortunate incident and join forces with peace brokers to maintain law and order in the Ejura Municipality.

Meanwhile, a group affiliated to the NPP calling itself FM Base Youth in a statement called the bluff of the evil machinations against the MCE and asked Ghanaians to ignore reports from the spoof websites

As signed by the group’s Spokesperson, Mohammed Awal Baba, the statement stated, “Our attention has been drawn to reports on a number of spoof websites that our MCE has been arrested at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in an attempt to flee the country.”

” The above claim and others that suggest that he has gone into hiding are the fiction of imagination of some faceless people who are capitalizing on the disturbance at Ejura for reasons best known to them. Others in pursuit of a clandestine agenda are busily circulating these fake news items on social media platforms.

Ordinarily, we would not have responded to this fake news which we are aware is a grand plot against the Ejura MCE by Some members of the NPP vying for the MCE position in the area. These self-seeking centered MCE hopefuls in collaborating with the NDC MP to defame the acting MCE of Ejura taking undue advantage of the dirty politics some people engaged in.The MCE has not been arrested anywhere being it Ejura, Kumasi or Accra.  He has also not attempted to flee the country.Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Salisu Bamba is in Ejura discharging his duties as tasked by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo”.

“We therefore wish to appeal to the public and those who have been carried away by these fake media reports to treat them with the contempt they deserve. This is also to remind all and sundry that he has been assigned a duty; that is to ensure that peace is restored in Ejura and residents go about their business without trouble as it was the case.He would therefore not be swayed by propaganda in these troubling moments.”
