Gold Fields Ghana’s Metallurgical Manager Honoured At 2021 WIMEA

Tamale, Ghana – Metallurgical Manager of Gold Fields Ghana, Damang Mine in the Western Region, Ing. Mrs. Catherine Kuupol Kuutor, has been honoured at the 2021 Women in Mining and Energy Awards.

She picked WIMEA Personality of the Year Award and the Exemplary Leadership Award in mining.

The awards ceremony held at Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra recognized the outstanding achievements, contributions and value additions of women in the mining and energy sectors. It also celebrated the role and achievements of women who have made a significant contribution to the two sectors.

The awards ceremony also sought to create awareness of the importance and need for the inclusion of women in these industries.

In 2019, Ing. Mrs Kuutor was voted among the list of “The 100 Most Influential Personalities From Northern Ghana” and in 2020 she was named Female Mining Professional of the Year at the 6th Ghana Mining Industry Awards (GMIA) for her immense contribution to the productivity and business success of the Damang mine in 2019.

Since the inception of Gold Fields operations in West Africa, she is the first female to be appointed to the position of Metallurgical Manager.

Prior to joining Gold Fields Ghana, Ing. Catherine worked with Golden Star Resources at Tarkwa.

The native of Nandom Fielmua in the Upper West Region of Ghana has over 16 years of experience working as a metallurgical engineer in Ghana’s mining sector.

Currently, she studying for a PhD in Mining Engineering at the University of Mines and Technology at Tarkwa.
