Goriyiri, Ghana – Whilst on a one-day visit to the Upper West Region, Former President John Dramani Mahama took time of his busy schedule to visit some affected areas of the recent flood disaster.
The purpose of the visit according to the Media Aide of the MP for Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency Prosper Sunkyedong, was to assess the extent of damage and also commiserate with victims.
The places the former President visited were Daffiama and Nadowli Goriyiri.
Mr Mahama decried the slow pace of government’s response to the disaster since the roads in question are critical to economic activities and access to Healthcare in the region. He urged the government to take proactive measures such as inviting the 48 engineer’s regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces to the sites to explore ways of finding temporary solutions on the worst affected routes whilst long-term interventions are being worked on.
At Goriyiri, Mr Mahama presented some relief items to the flood victims. The items included 20 packets of roofing sheets, 50 bags of cement and 50 bags of rice.
The items were received on behalf of the community by the Assembly man for Goriyiri Electoral Area, Nestor Mwinterebo. He expressed his profound gratitude to former president Mahama for the visit and the kind gesture.
The entourage of the former President included the 2020 running mate of the NDC Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, MP for Nadowli/Kaleo Hon. Anthony Mwinkaara Sumah, as well as some national and Upper West Regional Executives of the party.
