Nadowli, Ghana – The Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency, Anthony Mwinkaara Sumah in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service in the Nadowli District has organized extra classes for the 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates.
The MP committed over Gh¢13,000 to cater for teachers’ motivation and fuel to enable the District Education Directorate adequately monitor the revision classes which ended last weekend ahead of the BECE on Monday November 15, 2021.
The extra classes was spread across the whole Constituency to benefit all candidates and took place every other weekend over a six-week period.
Poor performance of children in the Constituency at the annual BECE has given all stakeholders including the legislator a cause to worry. In 2020 for instance, out of a total of 968 pupils presented for the BECE exam in the District, as many as 568 representing 62% failed while a paltry 38% made the pass mark.
It is against this backdrop that, the Mr Sumah together with the District Education Directorate took the decision to organize a snap revision classes for all BECE candidates in the district.
All Junior High Schools in the district were organized into clusters for the exercise. About 99 teachers were engaged to take the pupils through the most critical subject areas and the best ways of answering questions according to the West Africa Examination Council Chief Examiners’ report.
The MP for Nadowli-Kaleo in his rounds to some of the centers, had brief interactions with the candidates.
He urged them to make appropriate use of the little time remaining to make sure they are well prepared for the weeklong exam.
