TTH: Concerned Youth of Tamale Petitions CEO

Tamale, Ghana – Pressure group, Concerned Youth of Tamale, has petitioned the Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital over what it describes as ” … some very disturbing problems that have worried the people of Tamale for some time now.”

According to the group, the hospital’s Computerized Tomography Scan Machine (CT scan) has broken down for some time now, thereby compelling clients to travel to Techiman to have their scan.

The group in their petition also said that, “… some workers of the Tamale Teaching Hospital are alleged to be extorting monies from patients who visit the hospital.”

The group indicated that its petition became rife following “many complaints and cries” from patients who visit the hospital.

“….the Tamale Teaching Hospital is the only referral hospital that serves the five Northern Regions, and the hospital operating without a CT Scan Machine spells a bad name for the hospital’s management.

Sir, we are bringing it to your notice that, a lot of people have lost their lives either waiting to be sent to Techiman for a CT Scan or on their way to Techiman for it thereof. A working CT Scan Machine at TTH could have saved these lives and resources.”

The CYT claimed that the complaints and allegations by the public have “made the Tamale Teaching Hospital unpopular over time” and hinted of an intended demonstration to register their displeasure.

“But before that, we will give your outfit ten days grace period to fix the CT Scan at the hospital from the day this letter is delivered to your office. Failure to do so leaves us with no option than
to embark on the planned demonstration.”

Meanwhile, the group has mobilised over thousand five hundred (2500) signatures from concerned citizens of the
country to further press home their demands.

The petition was signed by Mr Sulemana Zakaria and Mr Mohammed Awal Khalilillahi, and copied to the King of Dagbon, Northern Regional Minister, Mayor of Tamale and Northern Regional Police Commander among others.
