Tamale, Ghana – Member of Parliament for the Sissala West Constituency, Mohammed Adam Sukparu, has announced his intention to launch a youth empowerment programme targeted at building the capacity of young people who are unemployed.
According to Mr Sukparu, the Sissala West constituency for a long time has “remained under-resourced and ill-equipped with employable skills”.
This difficult situation he observed was “bedeviling the youth in Sissala West constituency”.
Mr Sukparu cited limited opportunity for education and skills training as well as viable employment for the youth force with little or no education.
The Mohammed Adams Sukparu Youth Empowerment Training (MASYET) initiative which is scheduled to be launched on May 15th next month, has therefore identified about 150 young people within the Sissala West constituency to undergo free vocational skills training.
The training options are hairdressing, fashion design, welding and fabrication, and auto mechanic.
The goal of MASYET according to Mr Sukparu is to reduce unemployment and dependency ratio in the Sissala West Constituency by equipping the youth with entrepreneurial skills and expanding employment opportunities for all.
The youth of Sissala West would be the direct target group. One hundred and fifty (150) have been identified and selected. After successful training and graduation, they are expected to also train other youth in the constituency who would be enrolled on the training programme.
“The MASYET initiative covers a three-year duration. The 150 selected persons will undergo 3 years intensive apprenticeship training in fashion designing, hairdressing, welding and fabrication, and auto Mechanics. After a successful completion, they will be equipped with the basic tools to establish their own ventures and also train other youth in the constituency.”
