Tamale North, Ghana – National Chairman of Ghanas largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has said that since the countrys return to a multiparty democracy, his party has performed far better than any political party including the ruling New Patriotic Party.
Mr. Ampofo, a former Local Government Minister under the Mills Administration, said based on the trajectory of performance of the party, he believed the future was brighter for the NDC.
“I believe that there is a lot of prospects for us as a party in future because I keep on challenging our opponents that if you want to compare the performance of the NDC and the NPP for the past 30 since we were ushered into democratic dispensation the NDC has done far more than any other political party in the history of this country.”
Chairman Ampofo as he is widely known within the rank and file of the party said these when he spoke at the launch of a book to mark the 30th anniversary celebration of the NDC at the Tamale North constituency in the Northern Region recently.
He also paid glowing tribute to past founding members of the party who played sterling leadership roles in the formative years of the party citing the likes of the late Alhaji Sumani Zakaria and Alhaji ABR.
The event brought together big wigs of the party including National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, General Secretary Asiedu Nketsia and First Vice Chairman Alhaji Huudu Yahya. Executives from the Upper West, Upper East, North East, Northern and Savannah Regions as well as Members of Parliament led by Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Tamale South Haruna Iddrisu, Member of Parliament for Tamale North Alhassan Suhuyini, Member of Parliament for Wa West Peter Lanchene Toobu, Member of Parliament for Lawara, Bede Ziedeng, Member of Parliament for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa Dr. Sabastian Sandaare and former District Chief Executives.
The 1,500 page book titled Administrative History of the NDC and authored by Israel Dzantor, chronicles events about its formative years and achievements of various governments under different leaders including founder of the NDC late President Jerry John Rawlings.
The Upper West Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mohammed Abdul-Nasir alias Chairman Bunas bought the first copy of the voluminous book. He paid Gh¢21,000 for it.
