Sagnarigu, Ghana – Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, 2020 vice presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has underscored the significance of the party telling its own story so as to prevent others from giving a wrong narrative to its beautiful and unmatched history.
According to the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, there had been many lies said about the NDC by its opponents and attempts by some of them to even change what was the truth.
“Remember the lies that were told about us, about our members, the untruth, to the extent that those who rode on good roads pretended they hadn’t seen it. Those who saw schools in their communities acted that they were not there. Those who use the CHPS Compound pretended they didn’t exist. So imagine you don’t tell your own story as time went on and if we left the stories to others, what would they say about us?What would the story be about the NDC? You tell your story so that nobody uses an apostrophe to change the hard won reputation of others If you don’t tell your story you allow others to rope in people of doubtful contributions as those who have led the development of this country.
When you tell your story you’re able to set the records straight. You’re able to say that JM did not own DKM. That NDC asphalted roads throughout the country unlike those that are parading like pebbles that have been thrown over nail polish that they call road. When you tell your story you’ll able to say that its the NDC that raised the book ratio from 1 book to 3 children to 4 books per child. That it was the former NDC Attorney General that solved what would’ve been a war between us and our neighbours. That it was a former minister of Foreign Affairs who created the platform for applying for passports online and many good relations with our neighbours and even those who were not our neighbours. That it was Omane and others who saw the laying of fibre optics from the sea to all over this country to the northern most part, who born digitization.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said these when he launched a book to mark the 30th anniversary celebration of the NDC since its foundation in 1992 at the Tamale North constituency in the Northern Region recently.
The event brought together big wigs of the party including National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, General Secretary Asiedu Nketsia and First Vice Chairman Alhaji Huudu Yahya. Executives from the Upper West, Upper East, North East, Northern and Savannah Regions as well as Members of Parliament led by Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Tamale South Haruna Iddrisu, Member of Parliament for Tamale North Alhassan Suhuyini, Member of Parliament for Wa West Peter Lanchene Toobu, Member of Parliament for Lawara, Bede Ziedeng, Member of Parliament for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa Dr. Sabastian Sandaare and former District Chief Executives.
The 1,500 page book titled Administrative History of the NDC and authored by Israel Dzantor, chronicles events about its formative years and achievements of various governments under different leaders including founder of the NDC late President Jerry John Rawlings.
The Upper West Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mohammed Abdul-Nasir alias Chairman Bunas bought the first copy of the voluminous book. He paid Gh¢21,000 for it.
