Bamvim, Ghana – Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, the Northern Regional Minister, has expressed optimism that the Annual Pre-harvest Agribusiness Exhibitions and Conference by Agrihouse Foundation, would serve as a catalyst for fostering partnerships, driving technological advancements and unlocking the immense potential that lay within the region’s agricultural sector.
He observed that the event had consistently provided a unique opportunity for the people of the Northern Region especially farmers to showcase their agricultural potential, learn from industry experts and network with various individuals and organisations.
Alhaji Shaibu urged Agrihouse to direct its focus on the empowerment of women in agriculture because of their enormous contributions to the nation’s agricultural sector.
“This year’s event should focus on empowering our women in agriculture. Women make invaluable contributions to the agricultural sector and will be of great benefit if they are trained and mentored. By equipping them with the necessary skills and resources, we aim to enhance their participation, leadership, and economic independence in the agricultural value chain.”
The Minister said these in a keynote speech at the launch of the 13th Annual Pre–Harvest Agribusiness Exhibitions and Conference held at Kudubila in Bamvim in the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern Region.
The Annual Pre–Harvest Agribusiness Exhibitions and Conference is the largest platform for linking farmers, input dealers, agri-processors, and various stakeholders in the country’s agricultural landscape.
Pre-Harvest activities always provided a platform for farmers to showcase their products, connect with buyers, and access new markets. This has over the years opened doors for increased sales, improved profitability, and enhanced livelihoods.
The event has always aimed at fostering meaningful partnerships and collaborations that would drive growth and innovation in Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Alhaji Alhassan Shaibu also underscored the need for young people to be empowered to engage in agriculture.
“We cannot overlook the importance of engaging and empowering our youth. The Pre-Harvest activities on the field should serve as a platform to inspire and nurture the next generation of agricultural leaders for our future lies in the hands of the youth.”
He further expressed hope that the Pre-Harvest event in the next five years would become a premier agricultural event that attracts participants from across the country and even beyond the borders of the country.
“I hope to see an exponential increase in the number of farmers, women, and youth benefiting from the event, as well as a significant boost in the value of business deals and partnerships forged during the Pre-Harvest activities”, he added.
Meanwhile, from October 24th – 26th, the 2023 Pre-harvest Agribusiness Exhibitions and Conference would take place at the Agrihouse Agri-tech Demonstration Centre at Kudubila under Bamvim.
Opuni Frimpong, Growth and Partnership Lead at Agrihouse Foundation told the media, the upcoming event would bring together many different participants including farmers, farmer-based organisations, exhibitors, aggregators, inputs dealers, and processors to showcase what they do to investors, policymakers and buyers.
While encouraging many people to register and participate in the event Mr. Frimpong also appealed to corporate bodies to come on board and support Agrihouse Foundation.
