Yendi – Ghana, MTN Ghana has made a donation to the Dagbon Traditional Council in Yendi in the Northern Region towards the celebration of the 2023 Damba festival which began on Monday.
The Damba festival is celebrated annually by the Dagomba, Gonja, Nanumba, Mamprusi and Waala people across their respective traditional areas in Northern Ghana.
The festival is an occasion to thank God for His blessings of good harvest from their farming activities, prosperity and peaceful coexistence.
Damba is also celebrated to glorify the King of the Dagbon Kingdom and all royals across several paramountcies amidst drumming, singing and dancing by the sons and daughters of the kingdom.
Kwami Aseye Agude, Manager in-charge of MTN Ghana’s Retail Experience in the North, said the company placed special importance on things that matter to the people of Ghana which included the celebration of festivals.
“It gives us great pleasure to come and lend our support to the people of Dagbon Traditional area as you celebrate the Damba festival to thank God for his blessings over the years. We trust that our relationship which has existed over the years in different spheres will be deepened further as we continue to associate with you”, he said.
He added: “In line with our commitment to this festival, we would like to support the traditional council by presenting a cheque of GH¢15,000, airtime worth GH¢1,000 and assorted drinks and water.”
MTN Ghana also expressed interest in supporting the traditional authorities of Dagbon to organize an inter-community gala, grand durbar and some social activities associated with the festival.
The telecom company has set up experience centres at vantage points in the Yendi township to provide customers with new SIM activation and mobile money registration services.
Musah Yakubu, Public Relations Officer at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi where the donation took place, on behalf of the King of Dagbon Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, expressed profound gratitude to MTN Ghana for their support towards the festival and its associated activities.
He underscored the fact that, that was not the first time the company had supported the Dagbon Traditional Council, and urged them to continue to collaborate with the Council on such occasions.
