MTN MoMo Has Empowered Individuals and Transformed Businesses in 15 Years – Nii Adotey Mingle

Tamale, Ghana – Nii Adotey Mingle, Northern Sector General Manager of MTN Ghana, has observed that after 15 years of existence, MTN Mobile Money Limited has grown beyond just a mobile money service into “a platform that has empowered individuals, transformed businesses, and strengthened communities.”

According to Mr. Mingle, MTN MoMo service had enabled businesses to thrive, by providing them with the tools they needed to manage their finances more efficiently.

“We have seen how it has facilitated access to education, healthcare, and essential services, improving the quality of life for countless families. Also, access to government services has been simplified through the ubiquitous power of your MoMo enabling government agencies to collect taxes, levies and fees seamlessly. Clearly, MoMo has bridged the gap between the banked and the unbanked, bringing financial inclusion to the forefront of our nation’s development agenda,” he explained.

Mr. Mingle made these remarks in a speech read by Collins Agyei, Area Sales Manager in-charge of the five regions of the North at the launch of the fifteen anniversary of MTN Mobile Money Limited in Tamale on Thursday.

He said despite the successes of the company in the last 15 years, there were still some challenges and implored customers and Ghanaians to help MTN MoMo address the issues so that they could continue to “drive financial, digital and economic inclusion in Ghana.”

“Fraud remains one of the prevalent issues that continues to hinder our work of promoting digital and financial inclusion in the country. MoMo fraud is an issue we are very passionate about at Mobile Money Ltd and we will continue to work with all stakeholders through sensitization and awareness initiatives and will continue to invest in robust security measures to combat it and protect our valued customers.”

Mr. Adotey Mingle urged MTN MoMo customers to protect their personal identification numbers (PINs) and avoid clicking on unsolicited links, responding to fake SMS messages, or following the instructions of any random caller who pretend to be staff of MTN.

Meanwhile from now till the end of November, series of events have been planned to celebrate the anniversary nationwide. Activities such as promotions, launch of a new mymomo app, skills training for SMEs, stakeholder awards to honour loyal agents and merchants among others have been lined up.
