Sangu Delle Foundation Institutes Teaching Prize for Teachers in Nandom

Tamale, Ghana – The Sangu Delle Foundation led by Founder, Chief Dr. Sangu Delle, has launched its transformative education program focused on key areas that it believes would transform teaching and learning outcomes in the Nandom Municipality of the Upper West Region.

The three key areas are “access, infrastructure and teaching” which the SDF has identified as challenges seriously affecting the overall educational goals of Nandom.

Accordingly, in the area of teaching, the SDF has introduced “The Francis Hukpati Teaching Prize for Excellence”. It is named after a former mathematics teacher of Chief Sangu Delle from 25 years ago at Ghana International School in Accra.

According to Chief Sangu Delle in a recent post on Instagram, the prize would be awarded to the best basic school teacher in Nandom based on “the greatest improvement in student performance over 3 years.”

He added: “The winner will receive 10,000 cedis and an all-expenses paid trip to Dubai”.

There are also plans by the SDF to build more classrooms to create access for all children to be in school. ICT centres would also be built in all the zones across Nandom to enable children and teachers acquire digital skills.

Meanwhile, as part of the unveiling of this initiative for teachers, the SDF organized a free two-day capacity building workshop for about 500 basic school teachers in the Nandom Municipality.

Dr. Delle who is the Maalu Naa of the Nandom Traditional Area, promised the SDF would continue to organise more training and capacity building programs throughout the year for all teachers.

On his 35th birthday in 2022, Dr. Delle launched the SDF which is a grant-making non-profit with focus on education, health and job creation. At the launch in Accra, he also announced a US$1 million endowment fund with a pledge to ultimately grow it to US$10 million. He earmarked 50% of grants from the fund towards the benefit of Nandom, 30% to Ghana excluding Nandom and 20% to Africa excluding Ghana.
