Buipewura Jinapor II Needs Our Support in His Quest to Become VIice-President of The National House of Chiefs

BUIPEWURA JINAPOR (II) NEED OUR SUPPORT IN HIS QUEST TO BECOME VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL HOUSE OF CHIEFS

The National House of Chiefs in Ghana is a key institution established by Article 274 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 1 (1) of the Chieftaincy Act 2008, Act 759.

The National House of Chiefs plays a significant role in Promoting cultural heritage and traditions; Resolving chieftaincy disputes; Advising government on traditional and national issues and Supporting national development.

The National House of Chiefs is composed of members from Regional Houses of Chiefs, with five representatives from each region.

The current President is Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, who is also the Anwiasohene of Sefwi Anwiaso in the Western North Region of Ghana.

Snippets of information says the Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area of Gonja and President of the Buipe Traditional Council the revered Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II is set to contest as Vice-President of the National House of Chiefs in the coming days.

I think the bold decision by the Retired Senior Police Officer and renowned Traditional ruler need to embraced.

As I’ve consistently said the Traditional ruler of Buipe a historical town in the Gonja state has raised the bar of Chieftaincy in Savannah Region and will be an excellent Vice-President of the National House of Chiefs.

Buipewura Jinapor II has a strong track record of Chieftaincy leadership within the Savannah Region and the Chieftaincy institution of Northern Ghana and Ghana at large. He is known to be able to articulate any vision he believes in and has the ability to negotiate disputes and manage conflicts.

Buipewura Jinapor’s deep understanding of traditional customs, values and history is essential for effective leadership at the National House of Chiefs.

Having been posted and worked at many Regions across Ghana as a Police Officer, Buipewura Jinapor II has the capacity to handle unexpected challenges and setbacks. He is known to have a deep understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, has the ability to connect with people from different backgrounds and has patience in his dealings with all.

Space will not allow me enumerate the numerous positive contribution of Buipewura Jinapor II to the development of the Buipe Traditional Area, the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs and the National House of Chiefs.

The truth is we have had Chiefs from other Regions of the North who had made positive impact in their areas and Regions contesting for positions at the National level and winning. Why not Buipewura Jinapor II who has a more execellent track record in the Savannah Region?

Since the creation of the National House of Chiefs, Presidents Vice-President have been selected from among the members of the five Regions of the North but not Savannah Region and this has always been a concern to some of us since the area has more development oriented Traditional rulers that can make a hige impact at the National level.

Naa (Dr) Puoure Puobe Chiir VII, Nandom-Na (Upper West Region) was elected as his Vice-President in 1999. His President Odeefuo Boa Amponsem III later fell sick and so was succeeded by his Vice-president Na (Dr) Puoure Puobe Chiir Nandom-Na as President in 1999.

Wulugu Naba of the Mamprusi Traditional Area (North East Region) Prof. Naa John S. Nabila contested the presidency of the National House of Chiefs in 2008 and won. His contender was Daasebre Professor Oti Boateng, paramount chief of the New-Juaben Traditional Area.

In 2001 Na Banamini Sandu II, Kaleo-Na (Upper West Region) was elected the Vice-President.

The current Vice President of the National House of Chiefs is the Paramount Chief of Lawra Traditional Area (Upper West Region), Naa Puowele Karbo.

And so on.

I believe they all achieved this feet because of their track records in the Chieftaincy institution of Northern Ghana.

It therefore behoves on all of us as people of Savannah Region to come together and offer our assistance in which ever way to help Buipewura Jinapor (II) win this major position at the National House of Chiefs for the first time.

Limiting myself to Savannah Region, I sincerely think Buipewura Jinapor (II) will use the position of Vice-President of the National House of Chiefs to prosecute an agenda for the transformation of the Chieftaincy institution in Savannah Region.

Buipewura Jinapor II is very passionate about the development of Savannah Region and will surely use any position of Chieftaincy at the national level to engage with stakeholders and all who matter on the numerous developmental challenges of the Savannah Region.

Notwithstanding peoples reservations on some internal issues in Savannah Region in the past, the Buipewura Jinapor (II) I know will remain committed to the Savannah Region’s chieftaincy institution and to the interest of the development of the Savannah Region.

It is clear so many benefits will inure to the Savannah Region if we have a Paramount Chief from the Region as Vice-President of the National House of Chiefs and one who would perform the functions of his President in his absence.

Section 1 of the National House Of Chiefs Act states;
“(5) There shall also be a Vice-President of the National House of Chiefs who shall be a chief elected by the said House from among their number and who shall act as the Head of that House in the absence of the President and shall perform the functions of the President in the absence of the President”.

Buipewura Jinapor’s quest to become the Vice-President of the National House of Chiefs starts with us!

We need to create some convincing language, we need to bring out the postives in him, his good works as Vice President of the Gonja Traditional Council for many years, Vice-President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs and a Member of the National House of Chiefs.

This will definitely help him win convincingly Insha Allah for the good of all of us.
