You Can’t Deceive us Again; Constituents Tell Wa East MP

Wa, Ghana – The residents of Bayiri community in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region have call on the Member of Parliament, Godfred Bayon Tangu to fulfill his promise of connecting them to the National Grid.

At a durbar organized in Bayiri, Bayiri Naa Toorisung Salifu said “the extension of electricity to Bayiri started in the previous regime but got stalled and they do not know why.
According to him, during the 2016 general election, the then NPP aspiring  Member of Parliament Tangu came to them and promise the community  that, if they  vote for him to win power the electricity will be connected within six months but since he won power they have neither seen nor heard from him or even the Assembly.
“I Bayiri Naa on behalf of the people, I want to tell the government that no politician should step foot here for campaign or whatsoever if we are not connected to the National grid. You cannot deceive us again” the Chief stated.

According to Dankarama Boi, a fish trader, the lack of electricity is retarding development in the area.

She stressed that, though there is teachers quarters, teachers are not staying there, children cannot study at night due to lack of electricity and it is affecting the quality of education.

She added “we were deceived to wire our rooms, that we will be connected to the National grid. I even bought a deep freezer for my fish business but all that investment is going to waste. Are we part of the Wa East District at all?” She quizzed.

The complaints were not different from Guo, Kataar,Tafali and Gunuo as they are tired of the state of insecurity problems experienced  in the area due to bad roads and lack of electricity.

On his part, the Assembly Member for the area Mahama Jackalia told Radio Waa 92.1FM that, all the political leaders in the Wa East District are aware of the challenges faced by the Bayiri Zone, but only use them as a bet to campaign for political power but after they win power they do not show up again. “As an assembly member I do not have the financial muscle to solve them, the only thing I can do is to continue lobbing for support”.

The assembly member seized the opportunity to appeal to the government, NGO’s and philanthropists to come to their aid.

Meanwhile, speaking to Radio Waa off record, the Member of Parliament for the Wa East constituency, Godfred Bayon Tangu confirm that, he has indeed promise the people of Bayiri that within his six months in office, the community will be connected to the national grid during his 2016 campaign.

The MP appealed to the people to exercise patience because he has been bedridden and had to go through surgery to enable him walk. “Thank God now I am walking with a walking stick, so they should bear with me I will fix the light problem soon” he stated.

However the District Chief Executive for the area, Jotie Moses will not comment on the issue.
