Sensitisation on 2018 Budget Begins in Northern Region

Tamale, Ghana – A ten day sensitization on the 2018 budget statement and economic policies of government has begun in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital.

The sensitisation programme, aimed at disseminating government flagship policies and programmes, is to be carried out by the Information Service Department (ISD) in collaboration with the cinema communicators, District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies and other stakeholders.

It is to ensure that citizens at the grassroots get to know government developmental projects such as the planting for food and jobs, free SHS, one district, one factory and other interventions in the various languages across the region and how they would help address poverty and unemployment in the country.

This according to the ISD would enable the citizens also show interest in the programmes and contribute their quota towards the growth and sustainability of the policies

In view of this information vans have been allocated to Savelugu, Tolon, Tamale, Walewale, Sawla and Yendi districts to help with the dissemination programme.

Speaking at the launch of the programme in Tamale, the Northern Regional Director of ISD, George Akanlo, said the ability to breakdown government policies to the citizens at the local level would encourage the citizens to support government with the implementation.

He observed that, door-to-door campaign would help educate the citizens better especially at the local level on the various government programmes highlighted in the 2018 budget.

“We will make sure the budget is discussed with the religious leaders who would also intend educate their people in their dialect for a better understanding”, Mr Akanlo stressed.

He also explained that, much emphasis would be laid on the social policies that would have much impact on the people in the rural communities.

According to Mr Akanlo, the initial advocacy was seeing much investors trooping into the region to tap on the investment potentials available.

“Mostly those at the local levels are denied the information of the policies outlined by government and therefore do not have interest to participate but with this initiative, it will help  to encourage all irrespective of language barrier to liaise with government to ensure economic growth” he stated.

He therefore urged the cinema communication and the information officers to work hard to meet the set target for the development of the nation.

The Budget officer of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council(NRCC) Peter Owusu, said the  2018 budget would address more of the problems at the local levels and create more jobs for the teeming youth in the country.

He said those at the grassroots who contribute tremendously to the development of the nation would be considered first before the implementation.

He stressed that the campaign would enable the citizens to also take advantage of the Free SHS Policy and other numerous social intervention policies introduced by the government to enhance their welfare.
