Damongo, Ghana – The NPP Savannah Region Chairman hopeful, Nana Kwame Aboagye, seems to be in trouble as a young lady (name withheld) from Damongo has applied to a Tamale Family Tribunal for maintenance and custody of her child by the politician.
The young lady has accused Nana Kwame Aboagye of allegedly refusing to take full responsibility for their eight (8) months old baby named Ishaq Aboagye.
An affidavit (written statement) confirmed by oath or affirmation for use as evidence in court from the young lady at the Family Tribunal claimed she entered into a relationship with the NPP Chairman Nana Kwame Aboagye sometime in 2015 and periodically they had sexual intercourse.
The affidavit, which Bole based Nkilgi Fm has a copy, also claimed that in December 2017 she got pregnant out of the amorous relationship she had with Nana Kwame.
According to her, she informed Nana Kwame about the pregnancy from the onset but he did not say anything and when the pregnancy was 3 months old Nana Kwame told her to terminate it but she refused.
The lady’s affidavit further claimed that she delivered the baby but when Nana Kwame Aboagye was informed he still denied being responsible but provided a sheep and 700 Ghana cedis for the baby’s outdooring.
Although the affidavit indicated that Nana Kwame Aboagye is the father of the child he said he would not accept responsibility until a DNA test is conducted to prove that he is the actual father of the child.
Allegedly, Nana Kwame has also refused to pay maintenance fee for the child as ordered by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice when he was invited recently pending when a DNA test would be conducted.
Spokesperson for the young Lady, Ibrahim Zakaria explained to Bole based Nkilgi FM that the lawsuit became necessary due to Chairman Nana Kwame Aboagye’s attitude towards the lady and the child.
He said several attempts to get Nana Kwame accept the pregnancy and the child after delivery has proven futile.
Hearing of the application from the lady was fixed for 17th April, 2019 but Nkilgi FM cannot confirm whether the parties appeared before the Family Tribunal in Tamale on the said date.
Meanwhile Nana Kwame Aboagye has told the General Manager of Nkilgi FM Mahama Haruna that his lawyer has cautioned him not to discuss the issue in the media and so he would not grant an interview.
Nana Kwame however also disclosed that he has been providing for the upkeep of the child and mother and showed Mahama Haruna records of money he has sent to them through mobile money over the months.
Nana Kwame Aboagye said he has demanded for a DNA test because he doesn’t believe the child is his because of some issues that he can’t disclose to the public.
Nana Kwame Aboagye said he will continue to provide money for the upkeep of the child until a DNA test is conducted and that he will gladly accept the child if the DNA test proves he is the father.
The NPP Chairman said the issue cannot affect his chances of becoming the Savannah Regional Chairman of the NPP since it is so trivial to be used for political gains by his opponents.
