Farouk Aliu Mahama: The Man Who Has no RESPECT For Women

One thing some of the Parliamentary Aspirants should realize is that the Ghanaian voters or delegates are well awaken now and can think through the tiniest lines to make informed decisions. Gone are the days when politicians could exploit the ignorance of the voters and fool them to believe that they care about them even when their so-called caregivers were only deceivers.

I have been monitoring and following with keen interest, events between the Parliamentary Aspirants of the ruling NPP in the Yendi Constituency.

It appears Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama is desperately trying to popularize himself around his late father Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama’s litigious legacy and fame, but the prodigal son of the late contractor seems to lack focus and clear sense of direction as he is always swayed by activities and events of his key opponent in the Yendi NPP primaries.

He seems to have more panics and shocks in his marrow and beneath his spine anytime he hears the name of his main rival, Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah, whose late father with my little knowledge in the history of Yendi was a Senior and mentor to the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama.

I am compelled to put this piece out there because of a certain reckless comment made by Alhaji Farouk in his recent interview on Fiila Fm in which he sought to shoot down or pour scorn on his opponent, Hajia Abibaba over her natural orientation. He stated that “Spiritually and traditionally women must be relegated to the background…Yendi is too hot for a woman”.

I really want Alhaji Farouk Mahama to come again…because if at this modern age and time he still lives in the past centuries among those men who are found of disrespecting, suppressing, abusing, undermining and discriminating against women- then Yendi is in big trouble. Will Alhaji Farouk relegate to the background the women delegates in Yendi NPP whom he is desperately begging for their votes in the upcoming parliamentary primaries?

I wonder the kind of leadership he will offer the women in Yendi, should they give him their votes and power.

Honestly your comment is highly unfortunate and ill-timed since it sharply defeats the strong campaign for gender equality, women’s political and economic empowerment by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is the AU’s Gender Champion for Africa.

Your comments suggest that you will not be a good advocate for the women of Yendi and Northern Region if you mistakenly become an MP.

And come to think of it, I have followed events between you Alhaji Farouk and Hajia Abibata since and even from just last three weeks, and I have realized that the woman whom you are trying to demonize is rather dictating the pace for you to follow in Yendi.

I don’t see her to be that kind of a woman you are trying to equate her to, because aside her integrity, humility, good track record, moral respectability, mental stoutness, and good academic qualification, that woman Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakaria appears blameless and unpretentiously passionate about the development of Yendi Constituency and Northern Ghana at large. Learn to respect women.

  1. This window dressing wouldn’t help. He should be a gentleman and retract and apologize for his irresponsible statement.

Gender activists must stand up against this statement. “YENDI IS A HOT GROUND, SPIRITUALLY AND TRADITIONALLY WOMEN MUST BE RELEGATED TO THE BACK”.- FAROUK ALIU MAHAMA ON FILLA FM(August, 2019).
