Gbewaa Palace Assault: Stationed Military Personnel Replaced

Yendi, Ghana – The Gbewaa Palace has disclosed that all military personnel on duty at the palace on January 16, 2020 have been replaced.

The decision follows a police assault on a truck driver inside the palace of the Yaa Naa.

It is not clear whether sanctions will be meted out to them but Palace PRO, Yakubu Musah told Radio Justice’s “Tudu Lahabali Kpana” on Wednesday, that the military high command was quick to act on the orders of Yaa Naa Abukari II who was incensed about last Thursday’s incident.

He said the Yaa Naa’s orders came after CCTV footages revealed that the soldiers sat unconcerned while the police chased the truck driver into the Palace, arrested and physically assaulted him in their presence.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Obed Akwa led a high powered military delegation to the Gbewaa palace to apologise to the Dagbon King.

On Tuesday, the Northern Regional Police Commander who represented the Inspector General of Police also led a high powered police delegation to apologise to the Yaa Naa and reassure him of the police administration’s resolve to ensure the officers who ‘disrespected’ him are brought to book.
