MTN Donates to Regional Chief Imams Towards Eid-ul- Fitr Celebration

Tamale, Ghana – MTN Ghana has presented food items to the Northern Regional Chief Imam and other chief Imams across the country in support of this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebration.

The gesture forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility towards the Muslim community.

Food items including five bags of 25kg rice, five cartons of vegetable cooking oil, 10 packs of soft drinks and 20 packs of bottled mineral water were presented to the Chief Imam in Tamale.

Also, a big ram, Ghc2000 cash and MTN Airtime worth Ghc500 to aid in the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration was presented to each Regional Chief Imam including that of Northern Region.

The company would also be extending its support towards the annual Sallafest celebrations in Nima and Accra Newtown which came to halt two years ago following the outbreak of coronavirus.

The Northern Regional Branch Manager of MTN Ghana Aseye Kwami Akude who represented Nii Adotey Mingle, MTN General Manager for Northern Ghana said, the donation was to affirm its appreciation to the Chief Imams for their support, patronage, and loyalty to MTN saying “. We thank you once again for your continued support to our activities and for the warm reception we have enjoyed over the years”.

According to him, in a few days, the Holy month of Ramadan would be coming to an end and Muslims in Ghana and around the world will be celebrating Eidul Fitr.

He stressed that the past two years have not been normal due to the Coronavirus pandemic that made it difficult to bring together Muslim sects to pray and even break their fast which is usually done during Ramadan saying “It also affected the way we celebrated Eid-ul-fitr with all the restrictions we had to observe”.

“Even though the situation with the pandemic has subsided and restrictions have been lifted, the virus is still with us. So, we are urging the Muslim community to continue to observe all the laid down protocols to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus for good” he said.

“As we all know, the pandemic has affected a lot of lives and livelihoods. As a result, some responsibilities such as providing basic needs to support the needs of individuals and families now falls on the office of the Regional Chief Imam, especially during this month of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr which we know some families will depend on his office for some support.

It is against this background that MTN Ghana as a partner of the Regional Chief Imam, is here to support, just as we have done in the past 10 years and beyond to present the items.”

To provide distinct customer experience during the celebration, he noted that, MTN will set up stands at vantage points to provide customers with an enhanced customer experience whilst they celebrate.

In view of the ongoing SIM registration, we will also have a team that will register customers SIM with the Ghana Card, he added.

Sheikh Abdul Salam Ahmed, Northern Regional Chief Imam represented by a member of the Secretariat of the Tamale Central Mosque Mr. Alhassan Adam Abdul-Latif who received the items commended MTN Ghana for the tremendous contribution towards the growth of the Muslim community.

He said, the items would be used to break the fasting and seek for Allah’s blessings for the company.
