“I’M HURT!” Teacher Writes Emotional Letter to Education Minister

I’M HURT!

Dear Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, my name is Don Francis, a basic school teacher at the Gomoa Afransi SDA School. I’ve been so hurt this week that keeping it to myself is working no more.

Each day out of this week, some of my learners missed school. When asked, their parents didn’t have money for feeding at school.

I’ve spoken to the parents in question and as a major stakeholder in education, I humbly want to speak to you.

Hon. you have often said education is a key to defeating poverty and there’s no doubt about it. However, it is pathetic to know that these little ones are already losing the battle against poverty.

As it stands, poverty is winning and our children, losing. Meanwhile, it is not as if we’re helpless before poverty.

Hon. please, what’s happening to the school feeding program?
Is it working?

If yes, please include the schools in Gomoa Afransi especially my school, Afransi SDA School so that these future leaders of ours can have a strong foundation.

If it’s not working, please, humbly talk to GES to get it back. How does a child learn on empty stomach? Other times, you don’t see them after the break.

Please, I trust you and your network. Do something about the school feeding program.

Is it too hard to feed our children once a day?

Thank you.

Don Francis, Teacher, SDA School, Gomoa Afransi, Gomoa Central, Central Region.
