Accra, Ghana – Efforts by the government of Ghana to make the country a digital and technological hub has been boosted further by telecom and technology giant MTN Ghana with the launch of its new brand MTN Skills Academy.
The first of its kind in Ghana, the MTN Skills Academy which was launched on Thursday December 14th in Accra seeks to leverage technological tools to train the youth and solve unemployment issues in the country.
Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana who launched the Academy said, 100,000 Ghanaian youth would be trained in “digital skills and job placements by 2025.”
According to her, “the MTN Skills Academy seeks to reduce the unemployment rate in our country and support SMEs to thrive in the ecosystem.”
The launch of this bold initiative is in alignment with MTN’s Ambition 2025 Strategy for Africa.
The MTN Skills Academy is part of the company’s shift in its Corporate Social Investment towards Digital Skills for Digital Jobs with a view to reach 1 million people in Africa by 2025.
The MTN Skills Academy also aims to provide access to digital and financial skills training across Africa. This it will do by aiming to increase digital skills among young Africans, and increase employment opportunities.
Skills to be taught would include mobile app development, social media management, digital marketing and data analytics.
MTN is working with various partners to stay up-to-date on the changing digital landscape, and will offer content and courses that have been specifically curated with this in mind
Moreover, the MTN Skills Academy is designed on ‘inclusion for all’ principles.
The courses are delivered on demand-bases and range from foundational and basic skills, to intermediary and advanced.
The courses are also country-specific and are free.
