Abesig Receives Overall Best Dagara Performer And Musician Award at Kakube Festival

Nandom, Ghana – One of the major activities to herald the climax of the 2023 Nandom Kakube Festival on Sunday was the “Dagara Musicians Contest and Award”.

Many musicians from the Nandom Traditional Area registered to compete in the open for all contest.

However, at the end of the competition and thrilling performances by all contestants, multiple award-winning Dagara Hilife and Dagara Afro pop musician Abesig was adjudged the winner.

Abesig was the second but last to perform and he wowed the audience with his captivating songs and dance moves. He was unanimously declared by the judges as the “Overall Best Dagara Performer and Musician of The Year 2023.”

The award was received on his behalf by his brother, James Abesig from the paramount chief of the Nandom Traditional Area, HRM Naa Prof. Dr. Edmund Mwinyem Delle Chiir VIII.

Abesig, who was surprised by the Award, told JBAONLINE that he did not know that he was part of the contest until the last minute.

“One of my fans paid and registered for the contest without my knowledge while I was far away in Burkina Faso for a show.”

He said that his phone was off for two days and he only found out about the contest when he returned from the show in Burkina Faso this morning.

“I thought I was just performing to entertain the dignitaries and the crowd. So I left the festival ground immediately after my performance to go and prepare for another event in Burkina Faso tomorrow and I got a message from my brother that I was adjudged the best Dagara Performer and Musician of The Year”, he noted.

He added: “I am humbled by the recognition and the love I received from the people of Nandom. I dedicate the Award to all my fans and management.”

Abesig also expressed his gratitude to his fan who registered him to compete and to all his supporters who call themselves “Abesigators.”

Abesig is a rising star in the Dagara music scene and has released several hit songs since he launched of his career. He is known for his unique style and his fusion of traditional and modern elements into his music. He promised to continue to use his music to promote the Dagara culture and to inspire the youth to believe in themselves and work hard for success while eschewing any form of deviant behaviours that could destroy their future and reputation.

He also said that he plans to collaborate with other artistes and to perform at more Dagara festivals in the future.

The Nandom Kakube Festival is an annual ritual to express gratitude to God and the ancestors for a bountiful harvest and a prosperous year. It also showcases the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the people of Nandom.

The climax of the month long celebration of this year’s festival attracted hundreds of people including traditional leaders, politicians, clergy, tourists as well as sons and daughters of Nandom.

The festival was held at the St. Theresa’s Park amidst several cultural performances, exhibitions and sale of various household items, food products, livestock, beverages, garments and agricultural inputs among others.
