Tamale, Ghana – The Northern Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Alhaji Abdul-Salam Ahmed, has appealed to MTN Ghana Foundation to kindly partner with his office to build a school for the Moslem community in Tamale.
According to him, though Tamale was a big city with many basic schools, they were still inadequate to accommodate the large numbers of children being enrolled annually.
“The Tamale Central Mosque has numerous parcels of land available for school projects. What is left now is funding. I know MTN Ghana has over the years done so much for the people of Northern Region in the area of education. But I want to put this request to you to consider helping me and the leadership of the Tamale Central Mosque to build a school for the many Moslem children who are struggling for space to learn”.
Alhaji Ahmed said these on Wednesday when a team from MTN Ghana in Tamale made a donation to him and the Moslem community towards the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration which marks the end of Ramadan fasting.
The Northern Regional Chief Imam thanked the management of MTN Ghana Foundation and MTN Ghana for their consistent support over the years to the Moslem community across the country.
He prayed for the company and staff and urged them to continue to deliver good services to the people of Northern Region.
“There are still places your services don’t reach in the region and other parts of Ghana. I want to urge you to try and make sure you extend your services there so that there can be job creation for the people”, he added.
Kwami Aseye Akude, Regional Branches Manager of MTN Ghana Northern Sector – who presented the items, recounted the relationship between the company and the Moslem community in Ghana.
According to him, for over ten years MTN Ghana had partnered with many Regional Chief Imams as well as the National Chief Imam Sheikh Ousman Nuhu Sharabutu to support Moslem Communities in many ways including donations to celebrate the end of Ramadan fasting.
“We know that in times like this during Ramadan a lot of responsibilities also fall on his office and for him to be able to meet these responsibilities and also extend some support to families and individuals we presented a ram, bags of rice, cartons of bottled water, soft beverages and cooking oil.
We’re doing similar presentations in some other regions including Western, Ashanti and Greater Accra”, he said.
Mr. Akude also assured the public that throughout the period of the Eid celebration, MTN Ghana staff would be available to attend to clients who many have difficulties accessing voice, data and mobile money services among others.
Eid-ul-Fitr is a period when families and communities come together to share and strengthen their relationships after fasting for 30 days.
