Tamale, Ghana – Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Sangu Delle Foundation, Chief Dr. Sangu Delle, has launched the Foundation’s Youth and Women Economic Empowerment Programs in Nandom.
The September launch of the two programs, forms part of many initiatives the SDF has been rolling out since July this year.
The programs, which have been named after renowned Ghanaian citizens, cover agripreneurship, creative arts, technology entrepreneurship and women’s economic empowerment.
The Admiral Dzang Agricultural Entrepreneur Program, one of the programs, supports innovative agripreneurs and the first investment went to Moses Yangnemenga, founder and CEO of Tiemo Ndo based in Nandom.There is also the Professor Kwame Karikari Creative Arts Grant program which supports entrepreneurs in the creative economy. Another carefully considered initiative is the Professor Fred McBagonluri Technology Entrepreneurship Program which supports technology entrepreneurs.Last but not least is the Mninwell Delle Women’s Economic Empowerment Program which launched “Project 1000” to empower 1000 women artisans and entrepreneurs in the fields of hairdressing, dressmaking, weaving, agribusiness and trading.
“In addition, we also announced a strategic 10 year partnership with Nandom Rural Bank to invest 1 million Ghana cedis in subsidized loans to youth and women entrepreneurs who will only pay 10% interest with the Foundation covering the rest to help vitalize and stimulate the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Nandom.
“We are excited to play a leadership role in Nandom’s socio-economic transformation. We are grateful to His Majesty, Nandom Naa and all community leaders for the amazing support”, Maalu Naa Sangu Delle said.
The SDF also has other initiatives such as the Cardinal Dery Scholars program which supports students to pursue higher education outside the country, Patrick Awuah School Grant which provide grants to students to buy learning materials and laptops and the Francis Kupati Teachers Prize which honours teachers who have positively impacted their students by awarding cash prize of Gh¢10,000 to them. There is also the Amira Delle Scholarship at Harvard University which supports African Girls in honour of Dr. Delle’s mother Amira Delle, and the Prof. Edmund N. Delle Research Fund in honour of his father at the Harvard Centre for African Studies to sponsor graduate research in Africa.
On his 35th birthday in 2022, Dr. Delle who is native and Maalu Naa (Development Chief) of the Nandom Traditional Area, launched the SDF which is a grant-making non-profit with focus on education, health and job creation. At the launch in Accra, he also announced a US$1 million endowment fund with a pledge to ultimately grow it to US$10 million. He earmarked 50% of grants from the fund towards the benefit of Nandom, 30% to Ghana excluding Nandom and 20% to Africa excluding Ghana.
Dr. Delle is also founder and CEO of CarePoint, a tech-forward healthcare system which owns hospitals across Ghana and other African countries. He is Chairman of Golden Palm Investments Corporation, a pan-African investment firm that has backed many startups across Africa to raise millions of dollars of capital.
