Kalba, Ghana – HiChale, a community non-profit based in Sawla in the Savannah Region of Ghana has screened over 600 schoolchildren of various eye conditions.
The free eye screening exercise on Saturday was organized with support from Bliss Eye Care from Wa in the Upper West Region.
Emmanuel Kuusani, Managing Director of HiChale who was impressed with the work of Bliss Eye Care team led by its CEO Dr Zakarea Balure Al-hasan, said, “this is the first of it’s kind that such a massive eye screening has been organised mainly for only school children.”
According to Mr. Kuusani who spoke to SavannahNewsOnline, at the close of screening, many children with minor eye problems were given free medication while those with major issues were given referral notes to visit hospitals for further screening and treatment.
“Many parents who came with their children to be screened also expressed deep satisfaction and gratitude to the two organisations for partnering to bring such a remarkable project to Kalba”, he added.
The people of Kalba who were generally excited about the eye screening exercise, called for regular screening interventions to help prevent the many eye issues that are worrying children in the Kalba community.
