Wa, Ghana – As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gears up for its upcoming regional congress across the country to elect new regional executives, Saanbaye Basilide Kangbere popularly known as S.B Kangbere has filed his nomination forms to contest for the party’s chairmanship in the Upper West Region.
He did this together with other aspirants including Alhaji Abdul-Aziz, popularly known as Alhaji White who also filed to run for the office of 1st Vice Chairman.
As was seen in the just ended constituency elections, it is believed that S.B. Kangbere is leading a team to contest for the various positions, hence the name “Team S.B. Kangbere”.
After submitting his forms at the Regional Secretariat, Mr. Kangbere stated that it is time for change, a change that will bring a new vision to decentralize the administration of the party.
Acknowledging the performance of the current administration, he argued that “there is still room for improvement”.
“We have to carry the party to the people in the villages. It is not important that we sit back at the regional office and call the people to come, we should go to them”, he added.
Speaking further on his vision, Mr Kangbere said he intends to bring transparency to the party, explaining that “every constituency should be represented on the regional executive (committee) so that every constituency knows that there is somebody in the kitchen where the food is cooked; we have somebody in the hall where the laws are made”.
He said this will go a long way to make the grassroots feel belonging and enhance party unity.
S.B Kangbere said improving the fortunes of the party is his major aim, and that his administration’s important motive will be to make the Upper West a “World Bank” of the party such that they don’t rely on Bantama only.
He noted there is the need to win back the seats that started the party in the region, making reference to constituencies where founding fathers; B.K Adama, Dombo and Jaato Kaleo hailed from.
Mr Kangbere dispelled allegations that he is new to the party saying “it is only people who do not know him that would say that”.
According to him, he “was born in the party. My father was U.P, and I grew up with the tradition.”
He said he has been loyal to the NPP’s agenda all his life, and has contributed to the party in diverse ways including making donations to candidates and various regions.
He asserted that he was “the largest single donor to the (NPP) campaign in this region (Upper West). I am sure I donated more than the party’s headquarters to this region” during the 2016 elections.
