Breaking News!! Yagbonwura Accepts Savannah Region Without Kpandai

Damongo, Ghana – The King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa Sulemana Jakpa I has accepted the proposed creation of the Savanah Region without the Kpandai District.

Speaking at a closed door meeting attended by Chiefs and Opinion leaders as well as stakeholders across Gonjaland at the West Gonja District Assembly Hall in Damongo today, the Yagbonwura whose message was conveyed to all Chiefs gathered through the Buipewura Abudulai Jinapor (II), urged the entire Gonjaland to fully endorse the Savannah Region by voting “YES” on the day of the referendum.

Even though the meeting was well guided with the media being told to excuse the meeting because it was a closed door one, Bole based Nkilgi Fm can report that there were tense moments during the deliberations.

A thorny issue was the exclusion of Kpandai from the Savannah Region but the Buipewura who represented the Yagbonwura said the region can be created without Kpandai but at the appropriate time after the creation of the Savannah Region, Kpandai will be added.

Chief Lepowura MND Jawula whose Chieftaincy gate at Kpembe Traditional Area extends to the Kpandai area also spoke in a very convincing language to the admiration of everyone.

He said he has educated his people enough on the exclusion of Kpandai and they have understood him very well.

The Chiefs and stakeholders who attended the meeting later moved to the Jakpa Palace to meet with the Yagbonwura for another closed door meeting.

Nkilgi FM spoke to Chief Doliwura Awushie M.S Zakariah, Public Relations Officer and Spokesperson for the Yagbonwura after the closed door meetings and he said the Yagbonwura’s message is that the goverment of President Nana Akufo-Addo has agreed to grant the people of Gonjaland the long awaited region and so everyone should vote “Yes” because 50% vote and 80% Yes is needed during the referendum.

On Kpandai, Chief Doliwura said the Yagbonwura’s position after series of meetings is that the issue of Kpandai should be put aside and that after the people of Gonjaland get the Savanna Region, Kpandai will surely run back to join.

“The situation of Kpandai is like a child saying he doesn’t know home; he will definitely run round and come back when the need arises”; Chief Doliwura said.

The Parmaount Queenmother of Damongo Traditional Area, Damongowurche Jinche Soale on her part appealed to women and everybody to come out in their numbers to vote since this is a very welcoming news to Gonjaland and an opportunity to show how proud Gonjas are as a people.
