20 Students of UDS Benefits From Barclays Bank Scholarship Programme

Dungu, Ghana – Twenty (20) students of the University for Development Studies (UDS) have received a sponsorship package from Barclays Bank.

The sponsorship package which is given to brilliant but needy students was presented to students particularly from Science and Engineering disciplines at a Special Ceremony held at the Dr. Andani Andan Academic Chamber.

Each Awardee received a brand new lap-top and an amount of GH₵2,300 to support their educational needs. A total amount of GH₵167,425.00 was received by the Management of the University on behalf of the awardees.

The Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies, Professor Gabriel Teye thanked Barclays Bank for their continuous support to the University.

He said that though the University has an Education Fund for students, it is not able to cater for the many students who qualify for the support.

He acknowledged the sponsorship programme provided by the bank has been helpful in dealing with the challenge.

The Dean of Students, Professor Israel Dzomeku encouraged Barclays Bank to continue to extend its support to the University.

He appealed to the Bank to increase the number of beneficiaries and to broaden the scope of the scholarship to include students from other disciplines.

The Cluster Manger in charge of Northern Ghana, Mr. Robert Pusabaduap said the scholarship scheme is a component of Barclays Bank’s ‘Three-part Model’ aimed at supporting Education and Skills Development, Financial freedom and Business development.

He stated that Barclays Bank is committed through its Corporate Social Responsibility mandate to contribute to the development of tertiary Education in Ghana.

Mr. Pusabaduap said it was on this basis that the Bank will continue to strengthen its mutually beneficial relationship with UDS.

One of the Awardees, Amin Dasana Abdul-Gafaru thanked Barclays Bank on behalf of his colleagues for the sponsorship package.

He assured the Bank that the Awardees will put to good use the favor done them.
